“Aunt Edna” as she was affectionately known by many, was born May 22, 1927 in Mecklenburg County to the late Columbus “Lum” and Sara Means Morris. She quietly departed from this earthly tabernacle on Sun, Aug. 23 at 12:12 p.m. at Presbyterian Hospital-Matthews.
Edna received her education in the CMS public school system. She was reared at Red Branch Baptist Church. Recently, she joined Logan Chapel CME Church under the pastorate of the Rev. Clifton E. Harris.
Edna worked for many years as a nurse’s aid, work that she enjoyed until her retirement over 20 years ago.
Edna was formerly the widow of Mr. Fred Trull until she met and married Mr. James R. Long. In April 2007, she was widowed a second time when her mate of over 30 years passed away. There were no children born from either union, although, she mothered many throughout her life’s journey. She will indeed be missed, especially for her good cooking.
She leaves to cherish their memories: niece Joyce W. (Rev James) Jenerette of New Jersey; great niece/daughter Addie Laura (James) Wilkes of Charlotte; many other great, great-great nieces and nephews in New Jersey, New York, Texas, Virginia and Charlotte; brother and sister-in-law John and Alice Long; and a host of other cousins, relatives, and friends.
Long & Son Mortuary Service is serving the family.
