Chauncey Mayfield, CEO and president of the investment advisory group MayfieldGentry Realty Advisors, LLC, will receive Collaborative Venture’s first annual Inspiration Award.
Collaborative Ventures is a Charlotte-based business networking group that promotes business diversity, education and technical assistance for its members and entrepreneurs. The Inspiration Award recognizes emerging business leaders in Qcity. The group said it chose Mayfield because of his “outstanding leadership, vision, dedication and commitment to putting faith and family first.”

Jonathan N. Pinson was elected chairman of the South Carolina State University Board of Trustees. He will serve the remainder of former board chairman, Lumus Byrd’s term, which expires in June 2010. Pinson has been an SC State trustee since 2005. He is president of Professional Staffing Solution in Greenville, S.C., part owner of Travinia’s Italian Kitchen (locations in Greenville, Columbia and Myrtle Beach) and the Hilton Columbia Center Hotel in Columbia.

Darius Adamson, principal at Sedgefield Middle School since 2006, was named executive director for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Achievement Zone. Before coming to CMS, he worked in South Carolina as a teacher, administrative assistant, assistant principal and principal. He holds a bachelor’s degree in history and a master’s degree in education administration, both from the University of South Carolina in Columbia.

Ayinde Rudolph was named principal of James Martin Middle. Rudolph had been principal of the School of Math, Engineering, Technology and Science at Olympic since 2006, and served as assistant principal at Northwest School of the Arts for two years before that. Before joining CMS, Rudolph worked as a test consultant, administrative intern and teacher for schools in Washington, D.C., and northern Virginia. He holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio, and a master’s in educational leadership and administration from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

Col. Stephen M. Twitty, a 1985 graduate of South Carolina State University, was nominated by President Barack Obama for promotion to Brigadier General in the United States Army. Colonel Twitty will become the 14th General Officer to graduate from SC State and the 12th general officer to graduate from the school’s Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program. Twitty is a native of Chesnee, S.C., and holds a master’s degree in public administration from Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, Mich., and a master’s degree in national security strategy from the National War College in Washington, DC. His Army career spans more than 24 years.

Johnson C. Smith University quarterback Ryan Carter was named CIAA offensive back of the week for his performance in the school’s 27-14 win over Edward Waters College. Carter, a junior from Charlotte, racked up 327 yards of total offense (200 passing, 127 rushing). He also threw for two touchdowns and rushed for one.
