A pedestrian attempting to cross Monroe Road in southeast Charlotte was killed by a hit-and-run driver Monday night.

According to police, Jessie Lee Crouch was leaving a Circle K convenience store in the 8300 block heading toward the Charleston Place Apartments when he was struck by an unknown vehicle traveling “inbound” in the left lane.

Crouch was thrown about 50 feet and suffered fatal injuries. The driver failed to stop and fled the scene on Monroe Road heading toward Village Lake Drive.

Evidence collected at the scene indicates the suspect vehicle is a metallic gray Mitsubishi, possibly a four-door sedan. The Mitsubishi should have damage to the front bumper, hood, windshield and missing the driver’s-side mirror.

The crash is being investigated by the HITS Accident Reconstruction Unit.
