City Council member Nancy Carter is hosting a “Community Shred Event” to educate the Qcity about the dangers of identity theft and ways to avoid it.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 29, in the Eastland Mall parking lot. It begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 1 p.m.
Financial crimes officers from CMPD will also be there to answer fraud-related questions and to provide educational materials about identity theft.
Carter is encouraging all Qcity residents who attend to bring totes and boxes of “sensitive information” to shred. Shred-It is a secure shredding company that shreds CDs, paper, file folders and floppy disks. They will assist attendees with how to properly destroy documents that could result in identity theft.
