Council member Nancy Carter is hosting a “Community Shred Event” to educate the Qcity about the dangers of identity theft and ways to avoid it.

The event will be Saturday, August 29 at the Eastland Mall parking lot. It begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 1 p.m.

Financial crimes officers from CMPD will also be at the event to answer fraud-related questions and will provide educational materials about identity theft.

Carter is encouraging all Qcity residents who attend to bring totes and boxes of “sensitive information” to shred. Shred-It ® is a secure shredding company that sheds CDs, paper, file folders and floppy disks. They will assist attendees on how to properly destroy documents that could result in identity theft.
