Charlotte-Mecklenburg police on Tuesday signed a murder warrant against 28-year-old Damon Temple, who is wanted in connection with the Sunday shooting death of Stephen Morris Hill.

Hill, 41, was shot at a Citgo gas station on The Plaza.

Witnesses told police that Hill was standing in line outside the Citgo store waiting to make a purchase when a man pulled up in a dark blue car. Witnesses say the two men began to argue before the suspect shot Hill and drove away.

The suspect was described as a black man who wore a baggy white T-shirt, blue jeans and a white towel around his neck. A black woman wearing a long yellow top was with the suspect at the time of the shooting. Police on Monday released photographs of the suspect taken by a surveillance camera outside the store.

CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) is searching for Temple. Police say he should be considered armed and dangerous.

Police also are looking for a blue 1998 Buick Century, N.C. license plate YRY-2353. The car should have front-end damage, possibly missing the grill.

Anyone with information about Temple or have seen the car is asked to call or text VCAT at 704-336-8228 (VCAT), or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 (TIPS), or call 704-432-8477 to speak directly with the lead detective.
