OK, so it’s not exactly like winning the Powerball jackpot.

Still, I thought a $25 gas card would be enough to tempt even our most skeptical readers.

Since some of you are probably scratching your heads by now, I’ll start from the beginning.

In early June, Qcitymetro.com launched a weekly newsletter, which we email to all registered users of this Web site. To reward those who register, we decided to offer monthly giveaways.

For month one, we offered to give four registered users each a $25 gas card. Names would be chosen in a random drawing. Winners would be notified by email and would have five days to claim their prize. If a gas card went unclaimed, we’d pick another name and the five-day clock would start anew.

Well, the first three winners stepped forward quickly. One was a friend I knew in college. That fourth winner, however, has proven a challenge.

Four times we selected a name, and four times we sent out emails.

Nothing.

With gasoline selling for more than $2.50 a gallon, I can’t figure it. Maybe some folks are simply too leery of emails promising something for nothing.

All the same, we’ll keep drawing names until someone claims that fourth card.

Meanwhile, our giveaway this month will be two free tickets to see the play “The Color Purple” when it returns to the Qcity in August.

Let’s see how long it takes for someone to claim that prize.
