University City is not only home to the city’s largest university, UNC Charlotte, it is also home to 150,000 residents and more than 70,000 jobs. The area contributes billions to the area economy.

So, why aren’t Charlotteans taking it seriously?

University City Partners, advocates for the area, think it’s a branding issue.

“We want to clearly define University City as a destination,” Kevin Toomb, a marketing professor at UNC Charlotte who chairs University City Partners’ marketing committee, told The Charlotte Business Journal.

Clear Blue, an ad agency in Davidson, is charged with recreating UCity’s brand.

Look for their rebranding campaign to begin this fall.
