Why can’t D.C. Council member Marion Barry stay out of trouble?
Barry, 73, was arrested in Anacostia Park in southeast Washington on July 4, by police and charged with stalking his ex-girlfriend, Donna Watts-Brighthaupt, police said.
U.S. Park Police said he was arrested after Watts-Brighthaupt flagged down an officer and complained Barry was stalking and harassing her.
Barry was charged with misdemeanor stalking and then released. He is due to appear in court later this week.
Barry served four terms as mayor. He was caught smoking crack cocaine in an FBI sting in 1990. He served six months in prison and in 1994 regained the mayor’s office.
In recent years, he’s had problems with the IRS for failing to pay his income taxes on time.
