Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say they made fewer uptown arrests this Fourth of July, despite larger crowds.

As of 2:30 a.m., 31 adults had been arrested in center city, down from 42 last year.

Two juveniles – ages 15 and 14 – were arrested for disorderly conduct and blocking a street. Nine juveniles were arrested for violating the city’s midnight curfew for youths.

Police say residents also generally complied with CMPD’s requests that they call 311 instead of 911 to report noise and fireworks violations.

CMPD said it worked closely with the Mecklenburg County’s Department of Social Services with the juveniles and the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, MEDIC and the Charlotte Fire Department.
