Lillie Bell Freeman Young of Charlotte died on June 5 at age 101.
She was born in Luray, S.C. (Hampton County) on Mar. 17, 1908 and was the daughter of the late Mr. Tom Freeman and Mrs. Annie Small Freeman.
She was educated in the public schools of Hampton County. Early in life she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour and was baptized at Goodwill Baptist Church in Estill, S.C.
After relocating to Charlotte, she united with the Ebenezer Baptist Church where she served faithfully until the end.
On Nov. 8, 1942, Young was united in holy matrimony to Montague Young who preceded her in death. For over 40 years she was a treasured member of the Bill and Sara Bethune family. Although childless, she lovingly helped rear the four Bethune children.
On Fri, June 5, she was called from labor to reward. How sweet it is at the end of a well-spent life to turn one’s face toward the sunset and quietly sink into that rest that knows no waking except in the presence of God.
She leaves a host of cousins and friends who will always cherish her memory.
