Marc Davis, 17, made a mistake last weekend during a race at the Nashville Superspeedway.
On the way in for a pit stop, Davis made a seemingly unexpected turn that surprised fellow driver Brendan Gaughan and led to — by NASCAR standards — a fender bender.
Gaughan’s pit crew chief can be heard on this video clip demanding an audience with Davis, an African American, after the race.
Though it’s unclear exactly what was said, That’sRacin.com reports that Bryan Berry, the Nationwide Series crew chief’s indefinite suspension is due to a racial slur uttered during that post-race confrontation.
NASCAR has a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to racial and sexual harassment.
Earlier this season, the company settled a $225 million dollar harassment lawsuit that involved both racial and sexual harrassment of an African American female.
Davis’ next race is this Saturday at the Kentucky Speedway.
