It must be the year of the comeback, music lovers.

Maxwell’s new album is dropping in July, and Sade announced she’s headed back to the studio (plus the Black Eyed Peas and No Doubt both bringing their groups’ members together in the ‘09). Now Whitney Houston is getting back to what she does well, too.

After a seven-year hiatus, Houston will release a new studio album in September, says Sony.

The 2000s haven’t exactly been kind to Houston, with her stints in rehab and highly publicized split from then-husband Bobby Brown.

But at Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy party in February, Houston performed some of her classics and reportedly brought the house down. Davis, a Sony heavyweight and Houston’s mentor, said then the songbird was ready for a comeback.

And, of course, we’ll bring you deets on this developing story as we hear them.

For now: Do you agree with Davis, family? Can Whit leave behind the baggage of the last few years and rise to the top of charts once again? Are you looking forward to seeing her try?
