President Obama landed in Saudi Arabia today, and shortly thereafter, the television network Al-Jazeera aired a new audiotape, reportedly from al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, saying Obama was planting seeds for “revenge and hatred” towards the United States in the Muslim world.
The Saudi stop was a late addition to the president’s Middle East itinerary, the highlight of which will be a major address to the Muslim world delivered later this week in Egypt. Obama has said he wants to set a new tone for U.S.-Islamic relations.
Bin Laden, apparently, isn’t waiting.
The al-Qaeda leader said Obama is following former President George W. Bush’s policy of “antagonizing Muslims,” and warned Americans to be prepared for the “consequences.” United States officials, of course, will be working to authenticate the recording.
