I bumped into Latrina Harris this week at the Pop Life Media Mixer at Apostrophe. She and her business partner, Shenan Robinson, own the N.C. PlayDate franchise.

For those uninitiated, PlayDate is a social sensation that’s sweeping any number of big cities – Atlanta, Houston, Detroit, Nashville, Seattle, Orlando, etc. But instead of the usual club scene, partygoers pay a $10 cover to play the games they enjoyed as children — Twister, Simon Says, Scrabble, Pictionary, Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots, musical chairs, even hula-hoops.

I asked Harris how PlayDate Charlotte is doing. A big smile creased her lips.

“It’s doing extremely well,” she said.

The Qcity launch on April 18 drew more than 1,000 people, she said. The May event drew 932, even with the “For Sisters Only” event in town.

Harris said she and Robinson will launch PlayDate Greensboro and PlayDate Raleigh in July, followed by PlayDate Columbia in August.

If attendance stays strong, she said, the partners may consider move from once a month to twice a month.

Keep watching my blogs for updates.
