Helen Shemanski, 96, of Charlotte, died peacefully in her sleep on May 13, 2009, at Regency Retirement Village after a long illness.

She was the loving wife of John C. Shemanski, who preceded her in death.

Born on December 22, 1912 in Plains, Penn., she was the daughter of the late George and Veronica (Cyprich) Kubica. She was a longtime employee of General Motors and spent her retirement years in Sciota, Penn.; Pensacola, Fla.; and Charlotte.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Wyda, Anna Sobek, Sophie Piaquadia, Veronica Gross, Peggy Kowalski and brother John Kubitsa. She leaves behind her beloved dog, Pee Wee, and many nieces and nephews who will always remember “Aunt Helen.”

A memorial service will be held in Brodheadsville, Penn., and burial will follow in the Buena Vista Cemetery in Brodheadsville.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that you send donations in Helen’s name to the Humane Society of Charlotte, 2700 Toomey Ave., Charlotte, N.C., 28203.
