Mike Minter says he may run for Congress.

According to the Associated Press, the former Panthers safety will decide in the next few weeks whether to challenge Democrat Larry Kissell for the 8th District seat.

Kissell defeated 10-year Republican incumbent Rep. Robin Hayes in November’s election.

Minter spoke minutes after returning from a two-day visit to Washington where surveyed the political scene, according to the AP. He said he would discuss the issue with his family and pastor before deciding.

Minter is one of the most popular players in Panthers history. But would that popularity translate into votes at the polls?
