Got a sweet tooth? Feeling a bit sexy?
The Qcity has a new uptown dessert bar that might satisfy your desire.
Crave Dessert Bar, 500 W. 5th St., has an urban feel — brick walls, exposed ceiling and couch seating. Large picture windows give diners a street-level view of Graham Street.
It took me a while to select a dessert. The menu is extensive: cheesecakes, cupcakes, layered cakes, classics and chocolate desserts. Some desserts have fun names like Vanilla Sky (a layered vanilla cake) and Southern Belle (a pecan pie cupcake). Each has a suggested wine pairing, a nice touch for a novice like me, who thinks Amaretta and Amarula liquors go with every dessert.
I ordered the Berry Berry, a biscuit filled with wild raspberries and blue berries. The crunchy topping was made of lemons and sugar. It was served with two small scoops of Dulce de Leche ice cream. The berries had the right amount of sweetness, and the hint of lemon was a pleasant surprise. Overall it was delicious, but I would have preferred it served warm instead of at room temperature.
The signature drinks… well, that’s another story. They all have names that are sexually suggestive — Midnight Text, The Morning After, Straight FWB (Friends with Benefits). If you’re feeling especially naughty, you can have a Dirty Slut or a Clean Slut.
Taboo and Chocolate Cocaine are drinks I’d love to try. They also serve warm cider and tea.
The wait staff was friendly and knowledgeable, but my waitress was a pest. She stopped by our table every few minutes, which made me feel rushed. Her constant interruptions made it difficult to carry on a conversation. Also, the music provided by a live D.J. was a bit too loud, especially if you are in a romantic mood.
Overall, I liked Crave Dessert Bar. It’s a trendy place to go after dinner, or to hang out with friends for drinks.
Dessert prices are about average, all $7.95. The signature drinks, however, may be a bit expensive — $12 — especially if you’ve had dinner someplace else.
