Johnson C. Smith freshman Cameron Chatman was named the 2009 CIAA Women’s Tennis Player of the Year.

The High Point native finished the regular season with a perfect 13-0 record in conference play. She went 20-3 overall and 9-1 in her last 10 matches. She also won 11 of 12 conference doubles matches.

Chatman played at the No. 1 position in singles and doubles. She and doubles partner Jae Hargett posted a 16-5 overall record and finished second in the CIAA Tennis Championship Tournament.

Chatman is only the second freshman to win CIAA Player of the Year. The first was Ines Nieves of Fayetteville State University, who Chatman beat for the singles title. She also captured the 2009 Tournament MVP award.

Chatman is a business administration major.
