Actor and author Hill Harper is coming to the Afro-American Cultural Center next month for a book signing.

In addition to playing the role of Dr. Sheldon Hawkes in the CBS hit series “CSI: NY,” Hill has written two books aimed at African American youths and created the Manifest Your Destiny Foundation, a nonprofit that tries to empower young adults.

The foundation got its name from Harper’s first book, “Letters to a Young Brother: MANifest Your Destiny,” which won two NAACP awards and was named the Best Book for Young Adults by the American Library Association in 2007. He followed up with “Letters to a Sister: DeFINE Your Destiny” in 2008.

Harper’s Qcity book signing is scheduled for Saturday, May 9, at 1 p.m. Admission is $5 with the purchase of one of Hill’s books from Park Road Books (must present your receipt); $10 general admission; $5 for AACC members. A portion of the book sales will support the cultural center’s educational programs.

Harper is a graduate of Brown University and the Harvard University law school.

He also is scheduled to be the May 9 commencement speaker at Winston-Salem State University.
