David Winans, father of CeCe and BeBe Winans and patriarch of one of the most successful families in contemporary gospel music, died on Wednesday in Nashville. He was 74.
The cause was complications of a heart attack and a stroke that he had last fall, the New York Times reports, citing a family spokeswoman.
David Winans, widely known as Pop, and his wife, Delores, or Mom, had 10 children. All found fame as gospel performers, selling millions of albums and winning a total of 18 Grammy Awards.
The Winans quartet, with their sons Marvin, Carvin, Michael and Ronald, was one of the dominant groups of the 1980s.
