The Charlotte Chapter of the National Hampton Alumni Association is sponsoring a bus trip for Charlotte-area students to attend Hampton University’s High School Day.
The bus leaves on Friday, April 3, and returns on Saturday, April 4. Cost: $120 for students who sign up before March 28.
Cristal Watson, a 1994 HU graduate and now a systems engineer at Cisco, said the alumni association has been sponsoring the trip for at least the last 10 years. They typically take between 10 and 30 students, some visiting a college campus for the first time.
The trip is a way for local high school students to get to know the university. Once on campus, they will join others from around the country. The two-day visit includes meeting with HU students, visiting dorm rooms, touring the campus and attending a scrimmage game that kicks off spring training for the Hampton University football team.
Students already accepted for the fall semester can get housing assignments and begin working on their schedules, Watson said.
Watson said the trip is chaperoned, and parents are invited to follow the bus in their cars.
She estimates that the Hampton Alumni Association has at least 100 members in the Qcity area.
