Mr. William Henry “Billy” Phillips, 69, of Huntersville, passed away peacefully Friday, February 27, 2009.
He was born on January 22, 1940, in Charlotte to the late Randolph W. and Ollie Phillips. Billy received an honorable discharge from the United States Marine Corps with the rank of corporal (E-4), after which he spent many years as an insurance salesman for North Carolina Mutual, Independent Life and Occidental Life Insurance Companies.
He was a faithful member of Parkwood Institutional CME Church.
Mr. Phillips leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife, Patsy K. Phillips; five children, William H. Phillips Jr., Rodney S. Phillips (Shanda), Kenneth Gwynn (Bruhilda), Reginald Gwynn (Audrey), all of Charlotte, and Arlene Blackmon of Simpsonville, SC; one brother, John Phillips (Mary) and one sister, Frances Mark, both of Charlotte; two brothers-in-law, David Kimble (Margaret) and Clyde Kimble (Donnis), both of Charlotte; five sisters-in-law, Betty Phillips of Huntersville, Doris Bell, Alma Allen and Paulette Roberts, all of Charlotte, and Gail Kimble of Bloomfield, Conn; six grandchildren, William Phillips III, Shanika Gwynn, Reginald Gwynn Jr., Kenya Gwynn, Kenneth Gwynn Jr. and Julian Gwynn; one great-grandchild; one uncle, William J. Bauknight; a devoted friend, Albert Duncan; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Parkwood Institutional CME Church Scholarship Fund, 802 Tom Hunter Rd., Charlotte, N.C., 28213, in memory of William H. “Billy” Phillips.
