Mr. Rayford Jones Sr., son of the late Walter Jones Sr. and Cora Lee Duncan Jones was born April 4, 1937, in Lancaster County, S.C. He went home to be with the Lord on February 10, 2009, at Carolinas Medical Center.

Rayford received his education from the Lancaster County School System. He furthered his education at Central Piedmont Community College, where he received his Degree in Diesel Mechanics. He was employed with Akers Motor Lines, Ryder Trucking Company, and Yellow Freight Line, where he retired after thirty years of service to the trucking industry.

Accomplishments: Rayford was an active member of Clanton Presbyterian Church where he sang in the Male Chorus. He was also a former Deacon of Tabernacle Baptist Church, and The Saint Luke Missionary Baptist Church. Rayford was a member of the Paul Drayton Lodge #7, where he served in various capacities.

Mr. Jones was a great man of God who loved growing his own backyard garden, traveling and doing whatever was needed for his family. He was a true missionary, whereas he and his wife often visited the sick in their homes and nursing homes.

Mr. Jones was preceded in death by two brothers, Willie Jones and Artis Jones; two sisters, Blanch Rickenbacker and Lula B. Jones.

Rayford is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Mabel Duncan Jones of Charlotte. They were united in Holy Matrimony on October 25, 1959.

To this Holy Matrimony, six children were born. Three daughters, Felecia Jones of Atlanta and Leslie “Shay” Jones and Jacqueline Jones both of Charlotte; three sons, Rayford Jones Jr. (Angela), Irvin Jones and Eric Jones, all of Charlotte; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. One beloved sister, Ruth Jones of Lancaster, SC. Three brothers and their wives, Walter Jones Jr. (Evelyn) of Lancaster and Furman Jones (Betty) and Edward Jones (Genola) all of Charlotte. He is also survived by one uncle, David Lee Duncan of Newport News, Va., and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
