Jennifer Hudson has seen more than her share of tragedy with the murders of her mother, brother and nephew a few months ago. But the NAACP Image Awards helped show her the love along with her recent Grammy Award wins.

Hudson received NAACP awards for new artist, outstanding collaboration and best album with her self-titled work. Hudson’s acting chops also helped “The Secret Life of Bees” take home best motion picture.

And then she got to make a presentation to The Greatest–Muhammad Ali.

No-shows included Rihanna and Chris Brown, both of whom were still undercover after Brown was arrested and charged Sunday for allegedly assaultiing his high-profile girlfriend. Alas, Rihanna also lost out in the outstanding female artist category to Beyonce and Brown lost out to Jamix Foxx for outstanding male artist.

Hip-hop producer and businessman Russell Simmons received the organization’s most prestigious Vanguard award for helping increase racial and social understanding.
