Detroit’s former hip-hop mayor still has juice.
The Detroit Free Press reports today that Kwame Kilpatrick will soon take a job in Texas with Covisint, an affiliate of Detroit-based Compuware Corp.
Kilpatrick was freed from a 99-day jail sentence this month after pleading guilty to misleading a Wayne County jury about his relationship with former Chief of Staff Christine Beatty and the firing of police officers investigating his conduct in office.
The case exploded after steamy text messages surfaced that left little doubt about his relationship with Beatty. He resigned under pressure months later.
Kilpatrick’s duties in his new job were not defined but would not include contact with Detroit or Michigan-based customers, the Free Press reports. Covisint develops systems for large computer networks to communicate with one another.
