Johnson C. Smith University recently hired Keith Holcomb as assistant to school president Ronald Carter.

Holcomb formerly worked as executive assistant to former United Way of Central Carolinas President Gloria Pace King. In that job, Holcomb worked as liaison between King and the United Way board of directors and executive committee. His also helped plan and organize events.

At JCSU, Holcomb will assist Carter in a variety of administrative tasks. He also will represent the president at external functions such as conferences and awards ceremonies.

Holcomb holds a Bachelor degree in business administration from UNC Charlotte.

The United Way board fired King on Sept. 30 after news surfaced that she had been promised $2.1 million in pension payments, which the board’s executive committee approved for her in 2006.

King has appealed her dismissal and filed a discrimination complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, alleging racial bias.
