Mr. William C. Mobley
Born April 10, 1929 to the late Rowland H. Mobley and Alma Benson Mobley, Mr. Mobley was a native of Fairfield County, S.C. After completing high school, he attended Friendship Junior College in Rock Hil, and graduated in 1949 with a bachelor’s degree from Benedict College in Columbia. He received a Masters of Education degree from Tuskegee Institute in 1959.
After completing his undergraduate degree, Mr. Mobley moved to Union Springs, AL., where he met his wife of 53 years, Lecora Lucas. To their union, one daughter was born, Maude Emilye. His love and devotion to his family — immediate and extended — was unprecedented. He became a caregiver to his parents, aunts and a dear cousin and assisted a number of neighbors in the Northwood Estates community.
A retired public school educator, Mr. Mobley worked in the Bullock County, AL, and Charlotte-Mecklenburg school systems as an elementary school teacher. He enjoyed teaching and mentoring young people. He positively influenced countless students over his 38-year career. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1951 and served his country in Korea.
William served his community through several clubs and civic groups. He was a proud member of Kappa Alpha Phi Fraternity, the Charlotte Chapter of the Benedict Alumni Club, and the National Education Association and its state and local affiliates. A member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, he served the audio ministry there for several years until health began to decline.
Due to his compassion, counsel, and caring manner, William will be missed by all who knew him. He leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife, Lecora Lucas Mobley; his daughter, Emilye; one sister, Maude M. Williams of Mount Meigs, AL; two brothers, John G. Mobley and his wife, Barbara, of Winnsboro, S.C. and Adam Mobley of Cornelius, N.C.; and a number of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral service will be on Saturday, January 17, 2009, at 1:00 p.m, with visitation beginning at 12:00 p.m., at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. Interment, Sharon Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that funds be sent to The Benedict Scholarship Fund, Benedict College, 1600 Harden St., Columbia, S.C., 29204.
Long & Son Mortuary Service is serving the Mobley Family.
