Authorities are moving ahead with plans to auction off the $1.3 million south Charlotte home of Fantasia Barrino because the American Idol star has ignored demands that she repay a loan, according to the New York Post.
Qcitymetro reported in December that Barrino faced noon foreclosure sale at the Mecklenburg County courthouse on Jan. 12. A sheriffās department notice to that effect was posted inside the courthouse.
The 6,232-square-foot home on Bevington Place has five bedrooms and 5 1/2 baths, according to Mecklenburg tax records. She bought it in March 2007.
The house will be sold to the āhighest bidder for cash/subject to any mortgages, liens or taxes that may be owned on property,ā the document states.
According to the Post, Barrino owes a Florida credit company $65,000 ā money she borrowed in 2006 to pay back taxes she owed the IRS.
The singer made a $10,000 payment in August 2007, but she never paid the balance, the newspaper reported Wednesday.
Mecklenburg sheriffās deputies tried āat least a dozen timesā to reach Barrino at the home and by phone, the Post said.
A deputy spoke a couple of times to Barrinoās mother, but never reached the star, who appears to be ignoring attempts to save her house, according to the Post.
A second Charlotte house owned by Barrino, on Seton House Lane, has four bedrooms and 3.5 baths. She paid $740,000 for the home, which measures 4,572 square feet.
In 2005 lenders moved to repossess a red Mercedes Benz after Barrino fell behind in payments. The dealership sued, but the case was resolved.
Barrino won American Idol in 2004 and has since been nominated several times for Grammy awards. She was born in High Point and attended East Mecklenburg High School.
