A note from the editor:

C. Jemal Horton, a nationally known sports journalist, will join Qcitymetro.com as a sports blogger, beginning this week.

Horton has worked at the Washington Post, Indianapolis Star and Charlotte Observer.

With the Panthers safely in the playoffs, the NBA season heating up and the CIAA tournament weeks away, we can’t imagine a better time to add sports to our expanding lineup.

Horton says readers should expect a lively read full of opinion. He has named his blog “I’m Just Sayin’.”

“This blog will be a form of therapy for me — and my wife and friends would say it’s way past time for that,” he said. “One day you might read my blog and think, ‘Horton’s on point with this one,’ and the next time, there’s a chance you’ll say, ‘This guy has lost his mind!’ But I think that can be healthy – and fun.”

Horton has been a guest sports columnist for USA Today and The Charlotte Post. He was the first African-American general sports columnist in the states of North Carolina and Indiana. While at the Indianapolis Star, he was one of 25 black sports columnists in the country.

He has won numerous awards, including the prestigious Top 10 in Enterprise Reporting by the Associated Press Sports Editors and first place for sports columns by the North Carolina Press Association. Jemal has made guest appearances on ESPN, FoxSports, ESPNEWS, NBA TV, ESPN Radio and Sporting News Radio.

Radio listeners may catch him weekly as a co-host on WFNZ’s “Primetime with the Packman,” one of the top-rated sports-talk shows in the Southeast.

Horton is group sports editor for Carolina Weekly Newspapers, which provides publications for Charlotte, Huntersville, Matthews-Mint Hill, University City, Mountain Island and Union County.
